Bernie Tretta

April 1st, 2009 by Bernie Tretta

Hi!  My name is Bernie Tretta and I am a runner, triathlete and food lover from Houston, Texas.  I make my living managing cancer clinical trials but it doesn’t move me the way cupcakes do.  I eat to run and I run to eat =)  I started exercising about 7 years ago to lose some extra weight and I was quickly hooked on running.  I have since completed 7 marathons and have goals to complete my first ultra-marathon next.

After spending time in western Africa, it became more apparent how easy it is for Americans to forget about the rest of the world… especially those in need.  Train for Humanity’s mission is to raise money for the Darfur Peace and Development Organization’s school project to build and fund schools (http://www.darfurpeace.org/programs/darfur-schools-program).  Presently, it is the only organization paying salaries for school principals, teachers and support staff in North Darfur.  Train for Humanity is a fantastic way to raise money, raise awareness and raise the bar on my training goals.

I am dedicating every race and triathlon I run between now and August to Train for Humanity with a goal to raise $1000.

7 marathons is pretty impressive. I still can’t get past 3 miles.
