Athlete Profile: David Spence

I’ve always enjoyed swimming, riding & running but just like Cheddar Cheese & Marmalade I never thought that combining them together they would be so appealing. Thanks to my new found friends at Team Tri-Hard though I made this exciting discovery and in the process uncovered some deep rooted masochistic tendencies in the process as well.

During the course of the last few months I’ve developed quite an appetite for these pastimes so much so in fact that in 2009 I’m planning to dedicate quite a significant amount of effort to them and hope that during the space of 14 days I’ll be able to swim , ride & run further than many people do in an entire lifetime.

I aim to do this by completing 14 long distance Triathlon events, starting and finishing, at probably the hottest and most humid - The Langkawi Ironman.
Assuming I can complete all of these events, the total distance I aim to will be is 30kms of swimming, 1,500kms of riding & just over 375kms of running.

It seems a little selfish to do this just to satisfy these new found masochistic desires though, so I’m hoping that with a little help from friends like you, your network of contacts and maybe even your company, I am hoping to also use this piece of individual madness to raise over USD$15,000 for a humanitarian project I have also recently discovered. For more information on this worthy cause please visit www.trainingforhumanity.org and for a full list of the events I’ll be doing please go to my blog at www.teamtri-hard.com.

I appreciate that this next year will most likely to be considerably tougher one for us all and given that “charity should begin at home” they’ll be plenty of reasons why making a charitable contribution will not necessarily be the highest thing on your list of priorities just now. I do hope though, that like me, you’ll be able to find a way of giving up just a little something and in the process help the children that Train For Humanity support.

Thanks you in anticipation of the interest that you have shown in reading this far and assuming you have please find time to visit the above links especially the last one and make a small difference by making a contribution.

Thanks and I wish you all a healthy & wholesome year.
